Line In Audio active on the iPod Touch

Hello.
Many people have been asking if skype, gizmo or other VoIP SW will be available for The iPod Touch. ...and since physically there is no Microphone built into the Touch, many did think it is impossible.
But.
I am happy to inform you, that the Audio Input pins of the iPod Touch are active, and can be used for connecting any Audio source (like an external Mic, your CD-player, FM radio, etc) for recording. This also opens the doors for VoIP applications!!

The way I tested it: Modded an old docking cable and connected the Line-In pins to a source of Audio signal. Then used the Voice recorder App originally written for the iPhone. The dock pinouts are here: http://ipodlinux.org/Dock_Connector

Cheers!

4 - Could you mail me the Voice app from the iPhone. If this turns out to be useable, I'm willing to have our Chinese friends investigate and/or produce a dock/mike/speaker adapter!

8 - You have used the regular ipod cable...and could solder those connections? Also, please take more photos, especially that your right image has a bandwidth over limit. (Comment this)

9 - ok, I will put the photos somewhere, maybe flickr. The Gnd (29,30) are the left most pins (if you look at the iPod from the bottom and use the orig connector with two lines of pins as in my case.) The Line In pins are then (25,26), the 3rd pins from the left one above another again. good luck! I can also provide you a connector with a built in microphone soon! (Comment this)
