iPod Touch Mods

Dear All,

We would like to inform you about the news regarding VoIP on the iPod Touch:

You can find a new Count-Down counter on our blog (www.touchmods.net), timed to the NewYear which is also the planned date of the SIP-VoIP SW RELEASE.

Soon there will be also a Repository published, which could be added directly into the "Installer". From that people can already pre-download a "Dummy Application" which prepares the place for the future SIP-VoIP App.

On Silvester (New Years eve) at Midnight the only thing to do is then just to click on "Update" in Installer in order to get the FIRST FREE-SIP-VOIP Application for the iPod Touch.
Then everybody can test VoIP-calling by plugging in the Mic and entering the ID provided by any SIP-Provider.

After reading the post of RxE we decided to investigate the compatibility of some commercially available microphones, originally designed for the previous iPod models. To name a few:

- Xtreme Mac Micro
- Griffin iTalk
- Belkin TuneTalk

What we would be interested in, is to have a feedback from you, owning a Touch with VNotes or Nikotalkie installed, and one of those or similar commercial microphones.
- How sensitive is the microphone?
- can you control anything by using the Mic's hardware button?
- do you get any messege on the ipod screen when connecting the microphone?

Acc to Erica's blog at Tuaw, who did test one of those mics, the answers to these questions are mostly negative.
Let's see. Pls give us feedback, report your experiences!!

UPDATE: 8:51 CET

Up to now we know only one mic that works with the Touch using Nikotalkie and Vnotes.

.. and I agree: "simple is beatiful!"
